How it works
A spread bet's price converts between formats exactly like a moneyline price — the point spread just decides which side that price applies to, it does not change the arithmetic.
The one thing a spread adds that a moneyline does not is a push. On a whole-number line, if the final margin lands exactly on the number, the bet is void and stakes are returned — half-point lines remove that possibility entirely, which is why books often shade the price instead of moving off a whole number.
Worked example
| Line | −3 (whole number) |
| Price | 1.83 (−120) |
| Implied probability | 54.5% |
| Push risk | Yes — final margin of exactly 3 |
